Coast
Here we would like to introduce you the beaches in our area, which are counted among the beautifullest beaches in southern Spain.
Cadiz,-
Cadiz is not really the ideal bathing resort, compared to Chiclana and Conil. But being a historic and eldest city in Europe, Cadiz disposes with two interesting beaches. Playa la Caleta (450 meter long) is located close to the picturesque Old Town, decorated with coloured fishing boats.
Playa de la Victoria ( 2500 meter long ) lays behind the modern part of city, where the majority of the population of Cadiz spends the hot summer months. This beach enjoys a good reputation for its cleanness and the smooth sand. Both beaches are yearly featured with the blue flags for clean water.
Chiclana,- SANCTI PETRI
The beach of Sancti Petri is a smaller beach ( 500 meter long ), protected by the harbour bar. Ideal for small kids, or elder people who dont like the Atlantic whitecaps. There is a small marina close by and the abandoned village of Sancti Petri. In the 50th the tunas changed their road in the ocean and the fishermen left the place. Now the townhall has plans to renovate the conserved buildings and to demolish the ruinous ones. In the summer are concerts planned in pavilions.
The townhall has got ambitious plans for the future of the village with a bigger marina, restaurants, shops and cultural events.
LA BARROSA
This 8 kilometer long beach is famous for its smooth and white sand and clear water. The beach reaches from la Barrosa, the beach village of Chiclana with its promenade, villas, apartments and restaurants along the hotel area Novo Sancti Petri, up to the urbanisation Roche.
NOVO SANCTI PETRI
is the modern hotel area of Chiclana with several golf courses, tennis courts and a commercial center. Fortunately the building restrictions are very strong. For that reason hotels and apartments are not higher than 3 floors. The idea is that the buildings should not be higher than the pine trees of the extensive woods which reach from the hinterland to the beaches. Between the hotels are free and protected spaces with its natural cover.
The area between Novo Sancti Petri and the urbanisation Roche is also protected and no buildings at all permitted.
In Roche are coves which can be reached by stairs.
Conil,-
The beach of Conil might measure about 8 kilometers again and joins the next beach of El Palmar with another 10 kilometers. As everywhere, white, endless sand. Even in the busy summer month nobody has to fear that there is not enough space for his bath towel. Here you can walk along the promenade or into the white fisher village with its narrow streets and innumerable bars, pubs and restaurants. Very interesting is to spend the easterweek in Conil and to watch the impressive processions. In that time of the year the beach is really empty and the village not so crowded like in July and August.
El Palmar,-
El Palmar is not really a village and more an accumulation of summer houses and a few restaurants along the beach. There is no centre, so life takes place at the beach. The area is coined by the surfers as the whitecaps are ideal for surf ride. Most of the bars are alternative and some offer live music. But there are as well some fish restaurants.
Los Caòos,-

In the 70ties and beginning of the 80ties this village was destination of hippies and dropouts. With the time the village became a resort with still alternative attributes. Unfortunately the hippies, which still live on the beach during the summer month leave a lot of rubbish at some of the beaches, so the quality of the beaches is not as good as on the rest of the coast.
Barbate,-
Barbate starts to be prepared for the tourism, but is still a typical Spanish fisher village. Barbate is not really tidy and pretty and it is difficult to see the charm of the village. But there are beautiful beaches and a locality with future. In the village everything centres about the tunas and fishing. Barbate has got one of the last bigger fisher ports and there is a spacious marina with nice tapas restaurant. Here the Almadraba is still alive, the traditional way of tuna fishing in spring, when the tunas are on their way into the Mediterranean sea.
Zahara de los Atunes,-

As the name of Zahara says everything centres about the tuna as well. The village is pretty and very small. Zahara counts with 1000 habitants. But in the summer the quiet place awakes from its long sleep and transforms itself into an agile bathing resort. There is a very exclusive area with villas on the end of the beach, from where you can enjoy the fantastic views towards the African coast.
Unfortunately there is an apartment area between the village and the urbanisation, which is overdeveloped and destroys a bit the charm f the area.
Bolonia,-
A beautiful bay with a large beach and a tall shifting sand dune. There are just a few houses, the rest of the area is nature reserve and buildings not allowed. The Romans already discovered the beauty of the place and founded a roman village in the bay. The ruins can be visited. A very quiet and lovely place to spend a day on the beach.
Tarifa,-
The most southern place in Spain is coined by surfers. Tarifa is always windy, but got a lot of charm with the old centre, modern bars and young people. Tarifa is very international, but doesn't seem to be very touristy. Fantastic is the view to the African coast. Its worth to make a trip to Tanger, to see the Moroccan life. The Moroccan people is very kind, but different. If somebody not has the heart to travel to Morocco by himself, a lot of agencies offer guided trips to Tanger. Another highlight is to make a dolphin tour, as in the street of Gibraltar are a lot of dolphins and whales. For the heavy winds the dolphin tours cant be done every day, so better to call before driving to Tarifa.
